INTRODUCTION :
“Ama Dablam” is a mountain in the
Himalaya range of eastern Nepal at the Everest Region. It appears like a twin
snow peaks of unequal heights. The main peak is 6,812 metres (22,349 ft)
whereas the lower western peak is 5,563 metres (18,251 ft).
In the local Sherpa language , the word
“Ama Dablam” means "Mother's necklace"; the long ridges on each side
like the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier
thought of as the dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of
the gods, worn by Sherpa women.
With another version “Ama Dablam” means
" The mother mountain" so it's also regarded as mother mountain and
female snow peak.
“Ama Dablam” is the third most popular
Himalayan peak for permitted expeditions. For several days, “Ama Dablam”
dominates the eastern sky for anyone trekking to Mount Everest base camp. Most
of the beginners & novice climbers start their climbing career or hobby
with this snow peak being situated in the Everest region.
This snow peak “Ama Dablam” was first
climbed on 13 March 1961 by the four mountaineers from 4 different countries .
They were Mike Gill (NZ), Barry Bishop (USA), Mike Ward (UK) and Wally Romanes
(NZ) and they scaled it via the Southwest Ridge.
