INTRODUCTION ::
Mount Everest, also known as Mount
Chomolungma ( in tibetan language) or
Sagarmatha ( in nepali language ), is the world's highest mountain above the
mean sea level at 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). It is located in the Himalayas on
the Nepal (Sagarmatha Zone)-China (Tibet) border.
During 1856 AD after the first survey
completed by a great trigonometric team from England in British India, they
established the first published height of Everest and the peak was known as
Peak XV, at an altitude of 29,002 ft (8,840 m). Ten years later, in 1865AD,
this tallest snow peak in the world was named as Mt Everest after the name of
Sir George Everest who was the chief of the British Surveyor General of India.
Since this snow peak is located in the
Himalayan border of Tibet & Nepal, “Chomolungma” had been in common use by
Tibetans for centuries, and “Sagarmatha” had been the local appellation in
Nepali language. The British surveyor team
then was unable to establish the local names to this peak because both Nepal
& Tibet were closed to the foreigners.
The famous peak of Mt Everest was first
successfully scaled by Sir Edmund Hillary on 29th May 1953 along with his
Sherpa assistant Tenzing Norgay. By the
end of the 2008 climbing season, there had been 4,102 ascents to the summit by
about 2,700 individuals.
JOURNEY
DETAIL :
Your expedition begins when you land at
the International airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. You will be welcomed & received
by us. Be transferred to your pre-booked hotel. The following two more days
will be used for the preparation of the expedition. There will be the briefing
program on the expedition in the Ministry of Tourism in Kathmandu.
Also, there will be an introductory
program for the climbers with the liaison officer & all other members of
our Nepalese crew who will be accompanying and supporting you during the entire
period of expedition.
On the fourth day of your arrival – you
will take the flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest Base Camp.
The rest of the program for the
expedition would be as in the given itinerary below.
HIGH
CAMPS ABOVE THE BASE CAMP
Camp
- 1 [ at 20000ft. (6,400m) ]
This camp 1 is situated at the flat area
of endless snow, deep crevasses and mountain walls. Because of the Sun's
reflection from this place we get warm and hitting ambience at this place. In
the night we listen the deep murmuring cracking sounds of crevasses beneath our
tent. These are the areas through which we have to walk to reach camp 2.
Camp
– 2 [ at
21,000 ft. (6,750m )
This camp 2 is situated at the height of
the 21000ft, which is located at the foot of the icy mount Lhotse wall through
where we have to go ahead. The weather here is good but bad clouds roll in from
the low range of the Himalayan valleys to the bottom of our camp two. But wind
here some times seems very violent enough to destroy our tents. After climbing
these places we reach camp 3.
Camp – 3
[ at 22,300 ft. (7,100m)]
Camp 3 is located at the height of 22300ft, adjoining to mount Lhotse wall.
After climbing the 4000ft. on the Lhotse
wall by using fixed rope and with prior acclimatization it leads us to camp 4.
Also on the way we have to ascend the steep allow bands (lose, down -slopping
and rotten limestone). From there after
crossing a short snowfield , the
route moves ahead up the Geneva Spur to the east before finishing the flats of
the south col. (Another well known name is “Saddle of pass”). Oxygen should
probably be used above base camp 3
incase of needed to the climbers.
Camp
- 4. [ at 26,000 ft. ( 8,400m) ]
Now we are at camp 4 which is located at
the height of 26000ft; it is the last camp of the
Expedition. From here summit is up ahead about 500m only. This is the final and
dangerous part of the climbing. This place is besieged by ferocious and violent
winds. The normal best way to reach to summit is via the narrow South -East
Ridge and it precedes the South Summits 28,710 ft.From here the way is easy to
reach at the summit of the Everest 29,028 ft . The first climbers to the Mt.
Everest late Sir Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norge Sherpa used this route in
1953.
